Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

We are recruiting a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support a heavy industrial manufacturing site in the Glasgow area to cover the full production of days, back, and nights on a rotational basis. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance to ensure plant reliability, equipment availability, and safe operation across a continuous production environment.

The Role:

  • Perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on heavy industrial plant and machinery.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maintain production output.
  • Maintain and repair equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, chains, belts, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks in line with site schedules and engineering standards.
  • Support continuous improvement activities to enhance reliability and reduce breakdowns.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health & safety legislation and site procedures.
  • Accurately complete maintenance records, permits, and shift handover documentation.
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams across rotating shifts.
  • Assist with shutdowns, overhauls, and installation or upgrade projects as required.

About You:

  • Time-served Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and hands-on maintenance skills.
  • Experience working with heavy machinery and continuous or batch process plant.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift pattern (days, backs, and nights).
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and safe systems of work.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure in a breakdown-driven environment.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
  • Additional mechanical training or certifications are advantageous.
